American Classics is a study of major writings by American authors. It will include works, which have survived the test of time such as: Huckleberry Finn, The Sketch Book, The Awakening, The Great Gatsby, The Turn of the Screw and others. Class lecture and discussion will be directed to the analysis of these works according to plot, theme, structure, and characterization. Written assignments will accompany the reading as well as essay examinations and weekly quizzes.
While this course is not considered college preparatory, it is intended for those students with a keen interest in American literature, history, and art.
