Americanism & Government Scholarship National 4/13/2018 $250-$20000
Requirements:

The Americanism and Government scholarship program fosters interest in all levels of government, citizenship and provides students the opportunity to receive recognition and scholarships.  Students are tested on their knowledge of U.S. Government, Wisconsin Government, County Government, the Constitution and flag etiquette. The test is comprised of 50 true/false and multiple choice questions, plus one essay question.  Students are required to answer the essay question to qualify for the associated scholarships.

This is not an open book test and students are not allowed to use outside resources to take this test.  

Awards:

Annually, 45 winners are selected by the Americanism Committee of The American Legion, Department of Wisconsin.  The following scholarships are awarded:

 

16 students in Grade 10 receive $250 scholarships

16 students in Grade 11 receive $250 scholarships

13 students in Grade 12 receive $500 scholarships

Other Information:

The test is available on-line between April 2 – April 13, 2018.  It is recommended the test be taken in the classroom, however if classroom time is not available, the test can be taken anywhere internet access is available!  Students register on-line immediately prior to beginning the test. This only takes a minute so it won’t interfere with the hour allotted for completing the questions and essay.

Any student in the 10th, 11th, or 12th grade in any public, private, parochial or home-schooled within the State of Wisconsin may participate.  Since the test questions are different every year, students may participate all 3 years and be eligible for the scholarships multiple years.

Requirements:

 

Eligibility

Open to juniors and seniors in U.S. high schools, including home-schooled students, as well as U.S. citizens attending schools overseas. Additional questions regarding eligibility may be emailed to essaycontest@thefire.org.

Word Length

Students must submit an essay between 800 and 1,000 words on the provided topic below.

Deadline

FIRE must receive all entries by December 31, 2017. Winners will be announced by January 31, 2018.

Scholarship Prizes

One $10,000 first prize, one $5,000 second prize, and three $1,000 runner-up prizes will be awarded for the best essays. Four $500 winners will be chosen from the remaining entrants in a drawing.

NHS Scholarship National 1/30/2018 $2,850
Requirements:

The 2017-18 NHS Scholarship program will open on October 6. To be eligible to apply, a student must be a current high school senior and a member in good standing of an active NHS chapter. Eligible members must request application procedures from their NHS adviser. Beginning on October 6, NHS advisers may log in to download the materials to distribute to members and the principal.

Parentinn National 2/28/2018 $1250
Requirements:

Parentinn's Scholarship 2016 has achieved a major impact on raising awareness of Cyberbullying to all students, we decided to increase the prize pool up $2500 this year.

In an effort to the cause of preventing cyberbullying, we have created the “Cyberbullying Prevention for Teens Scholarship” for High school students.

Award: $2500 ($1250 for Undergraduate or Postgraduate students - $1250 for High School students).

Deadline: Feb 28th, 18 - We run this scholarship annually.

Polk Burnett Co-op Scholarship National 1/5/2018 $1250
Requirements:

Scholarship eligibility
1.  You must be a high school senior, graduating this school year
2.  You must be continuing your education after high school at an accredited technical school, college or university
3.  You must be the son, daughter or legal dependent of a Polk-Burnett member
Note: A member is someone who buys electricity from the co-op; parent/guardian must be named on electric account
4.  You must demonstrate community service, according to instructions on scholarship application

Awards:

45 STUDENTS – FIVE FROM EACH DISTRICT – WILL BE AWARDED $1,250 Polk-Burnett will select five scholarship recipients from each co-op district (see map). A total of 45 – $1,250 scholarships will be awarded.

WIN A TRIP TO WASHINGTON, D.C. – OPTIONAL Two candidates will have the chance to win an all-expense-paid trip to the NRECA Youth Tour of Washington, D.C. in June 2018, valued at $2,500! All scholarship applicants are invited to submit a separate Youth Tour application for this optional award. See Youth Tour application on back for instructions.

Polk-Burnett is pleased to offer community service scholarships to the sons and daughters of co-op members.

As a cooperative, Polk-Burnett has a strong commitment to youth and community. Each year since 1987, high school seniors are selected to receive scholarships to continue their education. The program recognizes the sons and daughters of members who demonstrate cooperative spirit through service to others. The Polk-Burnett scholarship is based on community service, not academic grades, athletic performance or financial need.
