At our Middle School there are four school-wide rules that apply to student behavior. These rules, as listed in the student handbook, are as follows:
Be Respectful Accept Responsibility Think and Act Safely Make Good choices
In our fifth grade discipline plan, students who choose not to behave responsibly or students not completing assignments on time will be given a detention. Students will be expected to serve the detention during our morning block of time designated recess/detention. Students completing their work and exhibiting appropriate behaviors will be rewarded each month with a special event/activity. Parents will be notified when a child has had four detentions. Upon a fifth detention, the student will not participate in the monthly event/activity. Students who do not get detentions each week are rewarded. In our plan, students exhibiting behavior that has a negative effect on other students will be dealt with more directly.
To help our students “Make Good Choices,” we have a Super-shooter and C-Buck program. Our Super-shooter program runs from September through December. Students earn Super-shooters (little slips of paper) for work completed on time, good grades, and good behavior in and out of the classroom. Students put their names on each Super-shooter earned and put them in a bucket for a weekly prize drawing. Students who do not get any detentions for an entire month are placed in a special monthly drawing. C-Bucks begin in December and continue through June. Students earn C-Bucks for the same reasons they earn Super-shooters and may spend them at our C-Buck store or save them for our annual end of the year auction. We look forward to working together on this plan to make your child’s 5th grade experience rewarding and successful.
